We sailed from Marseille on a Mediterranean cruise with Celebrity, on the Millennium. A business meeting in Dublin caused us to miss the first day of the cruise from Barcelona, but there was that even knowing when the cruise ended, we, we would see it anyway. Marseille - taxi from the airport 40 euros. Arrived in the rain, so tired that we go off to sleep a day, instead of, or held near Marseille Provence.
Dinner, including a few companions from the northIreland, a couple from Holland Park in London and another from Miami. Traveling with my best friend was an asset as we went around the table to the other every night to talk to the table.
Food. The first night I was disappointed with the food. Celebrity has a good reputation for food, which I expect better. My experience is not huge crossing at this point, but I had expected to be better than Holland America, and it was not. On our first formal night, there were only 6 of theus rather than 8, and the food was excellent. After a long day in Rome, we opted for the buffet dinner, the fine and filling, but not memorable by any stretch of the imagination. Lunch on board were the usual salads, hot meals, hamburgers and pizza, the very popular ice cream bar.
Spa: The first day aboard, we signed for anything for our days at sea - classes, lectures and a pedicure. It was excellent. However one days at sea, the only spa appointment willhad was an 8 clock in the morning, and that the early start required that (I take a nap oh, the luxury cruises) to draw in the late morning. Our day at sea was filled in, pedicures increased talk of a shopping mall is an art auction, ribbon weaving, lunch, lectures, spa, history lectures, and much more. We had so many things on the agenda that we missed the Cruise Critic meeting and a few other things. Easy to do too much.
Our Ports: Villefranche, the port of Nice was alluring, with its typicalCote d Azur coastal landscape of restaurants with awning blowing in the wind, ocher and saffron-colored houses stretching up the hill, the Citadel and gardens. The charming town of Villefranche easily occupied us for an afternoon, but followers admired the beautiful mountain village of Eze, and the ease of the train to Monaco or Nice and Cannes. In half an hour and only for a few dollars, you are in the center of Cannes or Monaco.
For Rome, ourPort was Civitavecchia, it's worth on Sunday to miss. The train to Rome is about an hour and a half from there to check, but the rare timetable on Sunday (Trent Italia before) you leave, have led us to wait an hour for the train, and arrive in Rome too late for our appointment at the Villa Borghese, Rome has the premier collection of masterpieces, including works by Titian, Caravaggio and Raphael .. In any case, from a friend was in a position to our way into the fabulous art collection at talkthis late hour, and for free as well. It was raining when we arrived, a reason to stay in the museum cafe and have an overpriced (albeit typical) for Rome lunch before they set out for St. Peter. Both of us had visited before, so we were pay a short visit to oogle missed some of the things that we had on other occasions.
Then a taxi to the station we had arrived, panting, just in time for our train back to the harbor. A misunderstanding has meant that we have no tickets, andwere no fines for a ticket when boarding, but the whole trip was worth the cost.
Mykonos, we docked at 1PM and took the shuttle into the city for $ 10 each. We walked around the harbor, especially leaves you can see through the shops, but also the local church and the Catholic Church, the windmills, Little Venice, and to walk the winding streets with whitewashed houses, blue doors and agean purple bougainvillea. Back on board, the Greek dancers aboard the vessel, the atmospheremore special. We have a shore excursion.
Ephesus - the highlight of the trip. 715Am An unusually early departure for a full day tour that Mary's House, Ephesus, a museum and St John's Church included. Mary's house was the solemn and quiet place of the day. In the cool air in the morning, smell, I believe, with laurel trees, it was wonderful. The walk through Ephesus, however, was in the blazing sun (in May), but the highlight of our trip. It was wasimpressive - from the men's latrine, a library, amphitheater and much more. The museum had a lot of mosaics and statues from the area. St. John's Church was interesting. I did not care for the carpet store, we were shown at the end. Providers in all the shops were too aggressive.
A lazy day at sea followed, with lectures, art auction, theater, movies and much more. Palermo. My choice fell on to miss it, and none of the shore excursions sounded interesting. We have to explore to pour their own,During the siesta, when the shops were closed. It was a mistake - I have never seen a dirtier, less friendly city. We went to the cathedral and the Opera House. I would like to remain on board.
Barcelona: Barcelona Our journey ended. We opted for an end to the departure of the ship, and took a taxi to the station. We could store our luggage in lockers, and then a hop on hop off tour of the city, directly opposite the station. The train to the airport was easy andcheap and easy to walk to the terminals. The RENFE train runs approximately every 30 minutes to and from Barcelona airport to city center. Travel time: about 25 minutes. You can take the train from Estacio de Franca, Passeig de Gracia, or Barcelona Sants catch (otherwise known as Sants Estacion The name of the stop you) for the Aeropuerto.
